Job summary

Men's Health Foundation is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to staff the front desk, manage scheduling, registrations, and calls, and verify insurance to ensure accurate patient billing and a smooth patient experience.

You will handle patient interactions with professionalism, maintain confidentiality, and contribute to a welcoming environment that reflects our commitment to equity and inclusion. This role emphasizes accuracy, empathy, and teamwork in a healthcare setting.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and provide courteous service to patients.
  • Assist patients with registration, capturing demographics, and uploading documents in the EMR.
  • Process payments at point of service and ensure cash reconciliation.
  • Schedule and modify appointments, verify insurance eligibility, and respond to inquiries.
  • Provide support at other sites as needed and perform related duties as assigned.

Join Our Team as a Patient Access Specialist!

As a Patient Access Specialist (PAS), you’ll be at the heart of our patient experience, staffing the front desk, checkout, and call center. In this versatile role, you’ll handle essential tasks like patient registration, scheduling, managing calls, and other customer service-related responsibilities. You’ll also play a key role in verifying insurance, addressing customer concerns, and resolving minor complaints to ensure our patients consistently receive the highest quality service.

What You'll Do
Patient Confidentiality & Customer Service
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality through patient contact as indiccated by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
  • Exhibits high level of customer service and follows the Customer Service Performance Standards
  • Handle patient calls and visits in a professionally and courteously manner
  • Address challenging patient interactions, answer questions, and responds to minor complaints professionally and efficiency
  • Maintains open lines of communication with providers, medical assistants, and other applicable employees, and utilizes a team-based approach to coordinate patient care
  • Demonstrates clear understanding of the services offered by the organization as well as any upcoming events as it relates to patients
Registration
  • Welcome patients and guide them through the registration process using our Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system
  • Scan and upload essential patient documents, including IDs, insurance cards, and disclosures, into the EMR
  • Verify and update patient demographics at every visit
  • Assist patients with completing necessary forms and documentation
  • Receives and handles payments at the time of service, and is responsible for cash box security and reconciliation of daily cash receipts
  • Monitor patient flow from registration to treatment, ensuring all concerns are met by checkout
  • Mails documents on an as-needed basis
  • Ensures the waiting and reception areas are kept neat, clean, and safe from any hazards and reporting on any damages
  • Monitors and ensures office supplies and forms are available for the day-to-day office operation
Scheduling Duties
  • Answer a high volume of patient calls courteously, managing tasks within your scope and routing others as needed.
  • Accurately enter new patient information in the EMR and update records for existing patients.
  • Obtain and verify demographics and insurance information
  • Verify insurance eligibility and demonstrate understanding of contracted payors
  • Clearly identify patient needs, resolve inquiries, and schedule or modify appointments accurately and efficiently.
Additional Duties
  • Provide support at other sites as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
