Position Summary

Under the direction of the Patient Access leadership team, the Patient Access Representative schedules, registers, initiates pre-authorization and referrals processes, and confirms patient diagnostic appointments, surgeries, and/or medical procedures for McLaren Health.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Obtains required patient demographic and insurance information to meet McLaren Health, governmental, billing, and third-party payer requirements.
  • Provides courteous and efficient service to customers, accurately documenting and verifying pre-registration information in a professional and timely manner. Collects, documents, scans all required demographic and financial information.
  • Schedules physician and/or diagnostic appointments.
  • Maintains knowledge of insurance and authorization requirements, performs real-time insurance verification, interprets responses, and informs patients of insurance requirements such as authorizations/pre-certifications and referrals.
  • Estimates and collects copays, deductibles, and other patient financial obligations.
  • Handles inbound and outbound calls to enhance business growth, customer satisfaction, and retention, facilitating access to McLaren Health services.
  • Maintains professionalism and diplomacy, adhering to department standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 1 year of experience in a customer service role or healthcare industry.
Preferred:
  • Two years of experience with third-party medical insurance, HMO, managed care, CPT, ICD-10 coding, and medical terminology.
