Job summary

MemorialCare Health System in Long Beach is seeking a Registration Coordinator I to support revenue cycle through accurate demographic and financial data collection, scheduling, and initial patient intake. This role also reviews prior visits to ensure proper appointments and handles authorizations for payers in a busy outpatient setting.

The ideal candidate has at least 2 years in hospital or outpatient admitting, knowledge of medical terminology and HIPAA rules, and typing speed of 40 WPM.

Qualifications

• 2+ years experience in hospital or outpatient admitting setting.
• Experience and understanding of the hospital, outpatient, medical environment and government agencies.
• Knowledge of medical and insurance terminology.
• Electronic medical records experience a plus.
• 40 WPM typing/keyboard skills preferred.
• Bilingual preferred.

Responsibilities

• Obtains accurate and current patient demographic and financial information to establish a valid medical record and patient billing account, for expediting third party billing and collection.
• Informs patients of and collects insurance co-payments, deductibles, or deposits and follows established cash handling procedures.
• Assists with quality review, audits, and maintenance of outpatient scheduling templates.
• Familiarizes self with outpatient registration procedures and cross-trains to provide assistance as needed.
• Assists in preparation and distribution of daily workloads, staff schedules, and supports the supervisor.
• Maintains patient confidentiality per HIPAA and guides patients with directions and escorts.
• Makes suggestions for enhancements to policies and practices.
• Manages patient, account and referral workups; performs billing reconciliation.
• Ensures clinical record systems comply with state and federal regulations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
