Patient Access Representative II
Position Highlights:

- Week Two: Sunday, Monday, Friday

What you will do:
- Perform registration and admission functions across multiple access services areas to maximize reimbursement and ensure timely, thorough information sharing. Verify insurance requirements, obtain benefits, and collect non-covered fees. Register outpatients across multiple clinical and diagnostic locations including Busse Center, Emergency Department, Immediate Care Centers, Laboratory, and Cancer Services.
- Interact with patients and representatives to collect demographic, insurance, financial, and clinical data. Offer interpreter services when needed. Obtain and scan consent forms, insurance cards, and other documents. Interpret physician orders for completeness and compliance. Explain registration and privacy processes, establish financial responsibility, and complete Medicare-related questionnaires and notices as appropriate.
- Ensure financial protocols are met, refer patients to Financial Counselors, verify authorizations, and minimize payer denials. Maintain current knowledge of insurance requirements and support physicians and staff with utilization, authorization, and referral activities. Communicate unresolved financial issues impacting scheduling.
- Utilize CPT and ICD codes, online payer resources, and estimators to determine financial responsibility. Meet cash collection goals and maintain registration accuracy. Resolve work queues timely and log cash receipts accurately.
- Coordinate scheduling for patients requiring multiple tests, explain patient prep instructions, and assist with wayfinding. Collaborate with physician offices for appointment check-ins and scheduling at offsite locations.
- Record all patient information electronically in compliance with EMTALA, HIPAA, payer, and other regulations. Prepare registration forms, documents, labels, and reports. Notify clinical departments of patient arrivals.
- Support new hires through basic precepting and act as a resource for performance improvement and system use. May serve as a patient receptionist/greeter, assist with patient flow, and support clinical departments as needed.
- Adhere to customer service standards using AIDET principles. Investigate and resolve patient inquiries or complaints, ensuring excellent service. Comply with hospital standards, policies, and procedures, reporting concerns to management.
What you will need:
- High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
- Computer skills in a Windows environment required. Ability to navigate multiple systems accurately and follow security protocols. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work independently, multi-task, and operate office equipment. Experience in transacting payments and maintaining a cash drawer.
- Minimum 2 years of customer service experience required. Minimum 1 year in a healthcare patient access department or hospital required. Familiarity with regulatory compliance, payer requirements, HIPAA, and revenue cycle procedures required. Epic Registration/Scheduling experience preferred.
- Completion of NCH Patient Access Specialist I competencies required.
