Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital in Cleveland, OH seeks a Patient Access Representative in the Emergency Department to welcome patients, collect demographic and insurance information, and guide them through registration and scheduling procedures.

You will work nights 10:30 p.m.–7:00 a.m. with weekend and holiday rotation, cross-training across front desk, admitting, ED and cash register. Epic experience and tuition reimbursement are offered to pursue further degrees.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with customer-facing experience.
• Knowledge of medical terminology sufficient to understand physician orders.
• Basic PC software knowledge and ability to use multiple data systems.

Responsibilities

• Register patients and collect demographics, insurance and financial information.
• Assist with insurance eligibility and co-pay collections; schedule services as needed.
• Cross-train to staff front desk, admitting, ED and cash register areas.
• Act as Super User and provide training support; ensure registration and cash access in Epic.

As a Patient Access Representative in the Emergency Department, your responsibility is to deliver an exceptional experience to patients, families and visitors, from the moment they enter to the time they return home. In this role, you will assist patients with everything from registration, insurance eligibility and collecting co-payments to self-screening and scheduling services. This position provides a strong foundation to advance in your career within various departments at the Cleveland Clinic.
This role is a great steppingstone to others within Customer Service and various departments within Cleveland Clinic. You can also take advantage of the tuition reimbursement to obtain your Master’s Degree.
A caregiver in this position works nights from 10:30 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. with every other weekend and holiday rotation requirements. You must work 3 holidays per year.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Perform registration and obtain information about demographics, insurance, medical and financial
• Crosstrain to staff all areas of patient access, such as front desk, admitting office, ED, and cash register
• Function as a Super User and act as a resource for training of new caregivers.
• Provide registration and cash collection access in Epic

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High school diploma or GED and two years of experience in a customer facing role OR an Associate’s Degree and one year of experience OR a Bachelor’s Degree
• Knowledge of medical terminology sufficient to understand physician orders OR completion of course within one year
• Basic PC software application knowledge and ability to use multiple data systems
• Ability to work confidently and efficiently in an emergency department setting

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Experience in healthcare, billing and coding

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
• Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.
• Ability to work with physical records or operate a computer or other office equipment.
• In some locations, ability to travel throughout the hospital system.
• In some locations ability to move up to 25 lbs.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range Minimum hourly: $15.75
Maximum hourly: $21.65
