Sanford Health in Fargo, ND is seeking a Patient Access Representative to deliver extraordinary customer service to patients at first contact, on the phone or in clinic. You will greet patients, verify demographics, route documents, collect payments, and coordinate with the nursing team to schedule visits.

The role requires a friendly, patient-focused approach and strong organizational skills. Part-time scheduling with varied shifts is described, with weekend and holiday coverage as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• One year of work experience, preferably in a medical office setting.
• Medical terminology helpful; customer service skills essential.

Department Details

Our switchboard operators are responsible for routing callers to the correct department or patient within one of our medical centers. They also facilitate launching emergency codes for all 3 medical campuses. Hours will be M/W 4p-9p, every other F 4p-9p and every other weekend 3p-1130p. Weekend coincides with Friday worked. Shift will also include 3 holidays rotating annually. (Holiday pay eligible)

Job Summary

As a Patient Access Representative, your primary responsibility will be providing extraordinary customer service to patients with every interaction. With being the first point of contact, you will have the opportunity to provide a positive patient experience by creating a welcoming and safe environment, either on the phone or in the clinic.

• Greet patients & verifies demographics

• Creating, scanning & routing documents or electronic forms

• Inform patients what the document is & capture signatures on necessary paperwork

• Establishes and assigns financial responsibility and assists with arrangements while adhering to appropriate policies and procedures

• Collects co-payments, pre-payments, and payments on account balances

• May work through the registration work queue to address and resolve registration errors or denied insurance claims

SCHEDULING

• Work with nursing team & providers to coordinate & schedule appointments to meet patient’s needs, coordinate provider schedule

• Obtain and coordinate referrals & conduct pre-authorization

• Arrange interpreter services

• Check patients in/out

• Operate multi-line phone

• May resolve work queue issues, manage recall and waitlists, & serve as switchboard operator calling codes and paging providers

ADDITIONAL DUTIES MAY INCLUDE

• Preparation & coordination of charts

• Organize supporting provider documents

• Initiation & collaboration of patient financial assistance

• Track patient visits & health information management on patient accounts

• Compile, distribute, administer, and score assessments

• Coordination of Telemed appointments

• Reminder calls for appointments

• Hospital admission

• Office duties, such as make copies or send faxes

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Post-secondary education helpful.

One year of work experience, preferably in a medical office setting. Medical terminology helpful; customer service skills essential. Six months' customer service experience desired.

May require BLS for certain locations and/or settings.
