Job summary

The Cleveland Clinic Main Campus is seeking a Patient Access Representative for the Emergency Department Registration team. You will greet patients, verify demographics and insurance eligibility, and collect co-pays, delivering courteous, efficient service in a fast-paced environment.

You will work nights from 11:00 pm to 7:30 am with rotating weekends/holidays, and you’ll have a strong foundation to grow within the Cleveland Clinic Health System.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with customer-facing experience or an associated/bachelor's degree as alternatives.
• Experience handling registration, insurance verification and cash collection is preferred.
• Familiarity with Epic or hospital registration systems is a plus.
• Strong computer skills and ability to work in an emergency department setting.

Responsibilities

• Perform patient registration and collect demographic, insurance and payment information.
• Verify insurance eligibility and assist with scheduling and self-pay processes.
• Crosstrain to staff multiple patient access areas as needed.
• Provide training support to new team members and act as a Super User for system processes.

As a Patient Access Representative in the Emergency Department, your responsibility is to deliver an exceptional experience to patients, families and visitors, from the moment they enter to the time they return home. In this role, you will assist patients with everything from registration, insurance eligibility and collecting co-payments to self-screening and scheduling services. This position provides a strong foundation to advance in your career within various departments at the Cleveland Clinic.

A caregiver in this role works nights from 11:00 p.m. - 7:30 a.m. with rotating weekend and holiday requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Perform registration and obtain information about demographics, insurance, medical and financial
• Crosstrain to staff all areas of patient access, such as front desk, admitting office, ED, and cash register
• Act as a resource for training of new team members and during the implementation of new processes
• Function as a Super User and act as a resource for training of new caregivers.
• Provide registration and cash collection access in Epic

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High school diploma or GED and two years of experience in a customer facing role with in person or phone contact OR an Associate’s Degree and one year of experience OR a Bachelor’s Degree
• Knowledge of medical terminology sufficient to understand physician orders OR completion of course within one year
• Basic PC software application knowledge and ability to use multiple data systems
• Ability to work confidently and efficiently in an emergency department setting

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
• Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.
• Ability to work with physical records or operate a computer or other office equipment.
• In some locations, ability to travel throughout the hospital system.
• In some locations ability to move up to 25 lbs.

• Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment.
