Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience in medical registration or patient access preferred.
  • Knowledge of insurance verification and billing regulations preferred.
  • Good computer skills and medical terminology knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Register patients accurately and collect demographic and insurance information.
  • Verify insurance and obtain required documentation for admission.
  • Collect applicable payments and ensure a seamless registration experience.
  • Collaborate with nursing and admissions teams to support patient flow.
  • Participate in ongoing training and process improvements.

Pay Transparency: The above reflects the anticipated hourly wage range for this position if hired to work in New Jersey. The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

The Patient Access Representative plays a vital role in creating a positive first impression for our patients by delivering compassionate, patient- centered service. This position is responsible for accurately registering patients, verifying insurance, obtaining required documentation, collecting applicable payments and ensuring a seamless registration experience. The representative serves as the first point of contact for patients and families, providing exceptional customer service during stressful and urgent situations.

As a Patient Access Representative in the Emergency Room, a typical daymight include:
  • Responsible for coordinating and facilitating registration and admissions by obtaining pertinent demographic information, collecting accurate insurance information authorizations to financially clear outpatient hospital accounts
  • The ideal candidate must be detail oriented and promote patient satisfaction
  • Service orientated background, good written and verbal communication skills and accurate typing ability
  • Demonstrates initiative and motivation in role; proactively identifies and resolves problems in an appropriate manner and escalates issues to leadership when necessary
  • Reflects commitment to building a supportive work environment and maintains a positive attitude
  • Works closely and professionally with nursing and ancillary departments to foster a team environment
  • Participate in training through the development of training tools, presentations at department in-services or staff meetings, or through the training of registration staff outside the patient access department

Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
Preferred:
  • Medical insurance verification and authorization experience preferred
  • Patient Access experience preferred
  • Knowledge in all aspects of registration, Non-federal and Federal billing regulations, and state programs such as Charity Care preferred
  • Medical terminology and computer skills
