Job summary

Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in Kentucky is seeking a full-time Patient Access/Registration specialist responsible for registering patients, verifying insurance and demographics, and coordinating at the point of service collection. You will gather information, communicate with insurers and patients, and may mentor new staff, with emphasis on accuracy, confidentiality, and customer service.

This role supports the hospital's mission and requires a minimum of 2 years' experience and BLS

Qualifications

• A minimum of 2 years' relevant experience required.
• High school diploma, GED or higher preferred.
• BLS - Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification required within 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• May visit patient rooms to gather needed insurance and financial information.
• Confirms eligibility and verifies insurance benefits.
• Ensures all necessary demographic and billing information is obtained and entered in the computer system.
• Obtain and document required pre-certification for outpatient testing.
• Schedule appointments using computerized scheduling programs.
• Explain financial responsibilities and payment options to patients.
• Counsel patients on insurance benefits and alternatives for payment.
• Accept payments and co-pays.
• Assist with patient transport within the department as needed.
• Communicate with insurance companies, external agencies, patients, physicians and team members.
• Verify insurance coverage presented by patients.
• Coordinate bed placement and transfers with nursing and other departments.
• Manage bed control log and scheduling for patient placement.
• Answer calls and provide patient information per policies; schedule outpatient appointments and testing.
