Qualifications

• High School Graduate or equivalent
• 2-3 years of health care or related experience required
• Understanding of healthcare business and finance principles with emphasis on hospital and physician access services
• Knowledge of healthcare reimbursement and payer mixes
• Experience with patient accounting systems and Windows-based applications

Responsibilities

• Ensures correct insurance payer plan choice and billing address in the patient accounting system
• Contacts payers to verify insurance eligibility
• Directs issues to appropriate area if referral or authorization is denied
• Interprets policies to establish patient financial liabilities and educates patients on responsibilities
• Collects co-payments, co-insurance, and deductibles according to policies
• Advises leadership of postponements or deferrals of elective/non-emergent admissions
• Maintains accurate pre-processing files
• Communicates effectively with staff to resolve urgent issues
• Investigates and documents patient problems and coordinates with staff and administration
• Assists cross-training within Patient Access Services
• Performs related responsibilities as required
