Job summary

Speare Memorial Hospital seeks an Admissions & Authorization Specialist to support our patient access team. You will help streamline authorization workflows, verify insurance, and submit NOAs, ensuring timely processing and minimizing financial risk for the hospital.

You will review services, obtain documentation, initiate authorizations, and communicate outcomes to clinical and billing staff while maintaining HIPAA compliance and delivering strong customer service.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years healthcare experience.
• Knowledge of insurance authorization workflows.
• Proficiency with EMR systems and payer portals.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• HIPAA compliance and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Review scheduled services to determine authorization requirements based on payer guidelines.
• Submit timely Notice of Admission (NOA) to CMS and private payers within 24-48 hours.
• Initiate and complete prior authorizations via payer portals, phone, or fax.
• Obtain and verify required clinical documentation to support medical necessity.
• Track and follow up on authorization and NOA status to prevent delays or denials.
• Communicate authorization outcomes to clinical and billing departments.
• Register patients for hospital services and verify demographics.
• Perform real-time insurance eligibility verification and obtain signatures.
