Summary:
The Patient Access Associate in the Emergency Department schedules, pre-registers, registers, and admits patients to the hospital. They serve as the first contact for many patients and must convey a caring and professional attitude to all patients and visitors. This role involves complete and accurate patient registration, insurance verification, medical necessity validation, identifying and collecting amounts due from patients, entering orders, scheduling, and ensuring an efficient flow of clinical, administrative, and clerical tasks. The associate ensures the accuracy of the patient’s unique identification number and demographic and financial information used to create an electronic bill. They inform patients of estimated financial responsibilities and collect upfront payments and co-payments based on estimates. Additionally, they obtain patient signatures on consent forms and insurance denial notices and assist with accommodations for patients with special needs.
