SUNY Upstate Medical University is seeking a professional to ensure smooth patient flow and registration for all services throughout Patient Access. Responsibilities include interviewing patients for registration, determining estimate needs under CMS No-Surprise Act, and acting as a liaison between patients and internal departments.

The ideal candidate will have an Associate’s degree, experience in a healthcare setting, and excellent communication and customer service skills. A Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) credential is required within two years of hire.

• Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) within two years of hire.

Job Summary:

Ensures smooth patient flow and proper registration for all services provided throughout Patient Access including Inpatient, ED, Ambulatory clinic registration, Lab, Radiology, Convenience Care, PAH, and Infusion procedures.

• Interviews patients to complete registration process to obtain demographics and financial information.
• Determines if patient is in need of an estimate based on current CMS No‑Surprise Act requirements, informs patient of estimate, estimated out‑of‑pocket balance, offers to collect and/or offers payment plan or financial assistance. Copay collection.
• Registration WQ monitoring, quality review and support.
• Claim edit, & Account level WQ resolution.
• Will act as a liaison between patients and internal departments.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate’s degree and two (2) years of related patient financial/insurance/registration experience in a healthcare related setting or equivalent combination of education and experience. Working knowledge of medical terminology, medical billing and excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent customer service skills.

Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) required within two years of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ability to work with a diverse patient population. Efficient keyboarding skills.
