Overview

Now hiring a Patient Access Advocate I-ED. The Patient Access Advocate I provides primary registration of patient accounts for self-pay, government, and commercial accounts on the date of service for scheduled and unscheduled visits. Responsibilities include registration functions, updating demographics, insurance verification, collection of point of service liabilities, and documentation within the ADT system. Ensures account accuracy to facilitate clean billing. Must have basic knowledge of Medicare (CMS) guidelines and other compliance regulations relevant to Patient Access. Provides excellent customer service to patients and visitors, including wayfinding.

Ideal Candidate

6 months healthcare experience or 1 year customer service background.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma/GED
  • 6 months healthcare or 1 year customer service experience
  • Pass the 2-week Patient Access Academy with 85%+ (within 6 months)
  • Preferred: CHAA, CHAM, or similar certification
  • Basic understanding of insurance, medical terminology, billing codes (DRG, ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS)
  • Knowledge of registration and healthcare processes
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office
Responsibilities
  • Deliver exceptional patient experience using CARES, AIDET, EPE tools
  • Resolve complaints promptly and effectively, using de-escalation techniques
  • Manage conflicts and seek supervisor assistance when needed
  • Implement PROMISE and CARES behaviors in all interactions
  • Educate patients about insurance benefits and liabilities
  • Ensure accounts are financially cleared at the point of service
  • Perform patient registration, collect and verify demographic and insurance information
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits
  • Document actions accurately for follow-up and audit purposes
  • Maintain knowledge of authorization requirements, payer guidelines, and Medicare (CMS) regulations
  • Complete MSPQ at the time of service if not done during financial clearance
