Base pay range: $15.00/hr - $21.48/hr

Overview

Now hiring a Patient Access Account Specialist I. Under the direction of the Patient Access Supervisor, this role provides functions to financially clear patient accounts for government and commercial payers prior to the date of service. Responsibilities include insurance verification, authorization, collection, documentation of patient demographics, benefit analysis, and pre-service collections. The specialist ensures follow-up on authorizations for scheduled and urgent/emergent procedures and admissions until the date of service or discharge. Basic knowledge of Medicare (CMS) guidelines and other compliance regulations such as HIPAA, EMTALA, and MSPQ is required. The role involves monitoring work queues for financial clearance and missing authorizations, acting as a resource within Patient Access, and providing excellent customer service to patients, departments, and payers.

Candidate Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years healthcare experience in Patient Access or billing
  • High school diploma or higher; continued education preferred
  • Knowledge of insurance and financial processing; proficiency in EPIC ADT system
  • Certifications such as CHAA, CHAM preferred
  • Ability to pass annual competency exams
  • Knowledge of customer encounter processes and Microsoft Office
Responsibilities
  • Provide excellent customer service using CARES, AIDET, and EPE tools
  • Resolve complaints, manage conflicts, and escalate issues when necessary
  • Educate patients on insurance benefits and liabilities
  • Perform patient registration and manage demographic and financial data
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits
  • Review work queues and ensure accurate documentation and authorization compliance
  • Coordinate with departments and payers to ensure proper authorization and financial clearance
  • Monitor and correct data errors and ensure accurate billing information
  • Collect patient liabilities and ensure authorization for procedures
  • Engage in quality improvement activities and risk management
