Job summary

Bedford College Group seeks a Lecturer – Pathways to join the Bedford Campus. You will deliver high-quality learning across Pathways programmes and support students with diverse needs, including SEND learners. The role requires collaboration with college staff and involvement in curriculum development and student progression.

Qualified candidates hold a relevant degree or Level 5 English qualification, with GCSEs, and a commitment to safeguarding. 37 hours per week, full-time, permanent.

Qualifications

  • Relevant degree and/or Level 5 qualification in English, with GCSE Maths and English, and knowledge of SEND and inclusive practice.
  • Teaching experience with learners at Entry Level and above, including GCSE and Functional Skills English.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office, Teams and digital learning tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to build positive relationships across the college.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, equality, inclusion and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £33,048 and £38,169 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 45 days annual leave plus Bank holidays,Teacher’s Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses. Note – Salary and annual leave entitlement is for that of a Qualified Lecturer.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hrs per Week |52 Weeks per year

Contract Type: Full Time - Permanent

About The Role

We are currently seeking a Lecturer – Pathways to join The Bedford College Group.

As a Lecturer – Pathways, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

  • Teaching & Learner Development – Delivers high-quality learning across Pathways programmes (Pre-Entry to Entry Level 3), supporting students with learning difficulties and disabilities to develop independence, achieve their goals and prepare for adulthood, employment and further education.
  • Assessment & Student Progress – Assesses, monitors and records learner progress, maintains accurate student records and reports, implements interventions where required, and ensures achievement of awarding body standards and programme outcomes.
  • Curriculum Development & Inclusive Practice – Develops engaging learning materials, prepares and reviews schemes of work, contributes to curriculum innovation and quality improvement, and promotes inclusive, safe and accessible learning environments.
  • Leadership, Collaboration & Student Support – Guides Learning Support Practitioners, works closely with colleagues and support staff, acts as Course Lead where required, and supports students through pastoral guidance, progression planning and employer-linked opportunities.
  • Professional Responsibilities & College Engagement – Participates in recruitment, marketing and college events, promotes positive behaviour and safeguarding, and upholds equality, diversity, inclusion, health & safety and continuous professional development requirements.
About You
  • Qualifications & Specialist Knowledge – Relevant degree and/or Level 5 qualification in English, with GCSE Maths and English, and strong knowledge of SEND, inclusive practice and teaching learners with additional needs. Commitment to achieving teaching qualifications and ongoing professional development.
  • Teaching & SEND Experience – Recent experience teaching and assessing learners at Entry Level and above, including students with learning difficulties and disabilities. Experience delivering GCSE and Functional Skills English, developing engaging learning approaches and supporting learner achievement.
  • Teaching, Digital & Learner Support Skills – Strong planning, classroom management and organisational skills, with the ability to support high-needs learners, adapt to changing priorities and confidently use Microsoft Office, Teams and digital learning tools.
  • Communication & Collaborative Working – Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to build positive relationships across the college, contribute effectively to team objectives, influence stakeholders and create a welcoming, inclusive learning environment.
  • Professionalism & College Values – Committed to safeguarding, equality, inclusion and continuous improvement, with a flexible and student-centred approach, willingness to work across all college locations and dedication to maintaining high professional standards.
