Job summary

UC San Diego is seeking an individual to perform technical tasks in the Pathology Laboratory, including receipt and processing of orders for slides and blocks for send-out testing and second opinion consultations.

Responsibilities include accessioning specimens, processing for send-out testing, tissue archival retrieval, and maintaining traceability of slides and blocks. Strong clerical and customer communication skills are also required.

Qualifications

• Graduation from college with a major in an applicable natural science; or two (2) years of college courses in the natural sciences plus two (2) years of applicable experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Previous experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
• Incumbent must be able to sit and stand for extended periods, lift up to 20 pounds, and have sufficient fine motor skills to perform technical tasks (pipetting, keyboarding, culture inoculation, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Receive and process orders for slides and blocks for send-out testing and second opinion consultations.
• Accession specimens in the laboratory information system and process specimens for send-out testing.
• Archive tissue retrieval and track slides and blocks; return materials to outside facilities.
• Provide lab-related clerical support and communicate with laboratory customers.
