Overview

Lab Processing Technician to work in the Histology Laboratory within the Division of Surgical Pathology in the Department of Pathology under the direct supervision of Lead Histology Technologists (and Clinical Laboratory Manager) and functional supervision from higher level laboratory staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist with cover slipping of slides for viewing under microscopes.
• Collate and organize paperwork accompanying slides; pack, unpack, sort and transport samples and slides to assigned locations.
• Assist with basic and general lab functions; perform general cleaning and maintenance of laboratory equipment and instruments.
• Handle tissue cassette receipt, block and slide send-out; track using Beaker barcode scanning.
• Perform customer service-related duties such as answering telephone/email inquiries, entering manual orders, and resolving problems from department staff and pathologists.
• Numerically pull and/or file paraffin blocks; assist with daily maintenance and reagent changes on staining and processing equipment.
• Sort slides by case and ensure they are accurately delivered to scanning or to the case pathologist.
• Other duties as needed.
