Job summary

Tufts Medicine seeks an entry-level Pathology/Histology Assistant to assist in preparation, examination, and preservation of pathological specimens under supervision. You will engage in autopsies, tissue processing, and research support.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Pathology or related science and ASCP certification within six months of hire; a Master’s degree and prior pathology experience are preferred. This is a full-time on-site position at Tufts Medicine facilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Pathology or related biological science.
• ASCP Pathologists' Assistant certification within six months of hire.
• Master's degree in Pathology or related biological science preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, gross (exam with the naked eye), and dissect surgical and autopsy specimens.
• Assist with forensic, medicolegal, and hospital autopsies.
• Summarize patient medical records and prepare autopsy reports.
• Prepare tissue for pathological examination and testing, including photography of specimens.
• Complete surgical pathology protocol reports and data, file reports, slides, and billing code entry.
• Maintain equipment and supplies, clean the surgical pathology suite.
• Instruct pathology residents/fellows and other staff.
• Participate in research.
• Procure samples for biospecimen banking.
