Job summary

Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY, seeks a Pathologists' Assistant to join the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, the Capital Region's only academic medical center. You will work with subspecialty pathologists and residents in a busy academic environment, handling complex surgical pathology, delivering high-quality grossing, and contributing to education and laboratory practice.

Qualifications

• Experience with surgical pathology grossing and specimen handling.
• Ability to mentor residents and learners.
• Strong collaboration with pathology team.

Responsibilities

• Perform gross examination, description, dissection, and sampling of a broad spectrum of surgical pathology specimens.
• Evaluate and prepare tissue for intraoperative consultation and frozen section, working with pathologists during time-sensitive decisions.
• Photograph and document gross specimens and ensure accurate orientation, sampling, and submission.
• Serve as a resource for difficult or unusual specimens and promote high-quality grossing practices.
• Teach and mentor pathology residents and other learners in gross examination and surgical pathology technique.
• Work with pathologists, residents, histology staff, OR personnel, and leadership to improve quality and workflow.
• Participate in quality improvement, procedure development, validation, education, and departmental initiatives.
