Job summary

Albany Medical Center, the Capital Region's academic medical center, is seeking a Pathologists' Assistant to join the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. You will work with subspecialty pathologists, residents, and histology staff in a busy academic environment with a broad and challenging case mix.

The role involves gross examination, description, dissection, sampling, intraoperative assessment, and teaching residents.

Qualifications

• Experience performing gross examination and dissection of diverse surgical pathology specimens.
• Ability to mentor pathology residents and participate in education.
• Strong collaboration with pathologists and other laboratory staff.

Responsibilities

• Perform gross examination, description, dissection and sampling of a broad range of surgical pathology specimens.
• Evaluate tissue for intraoperative consultation and frozen sections with pathologists.
• Photograph and document gross specimens and ensure proper orientation and submission.
• Serve as a resource for difficult specimens and promote high-quality grossing practices.
• Teach and mentor residents and learners in grossing and surgical pathology technique.
• Collaborate with pathologists, residents, histology staff, OR personnel and leadership to improve quality and workflow.
• Participate in quality improvement, procedure development, validation and departmental education initiatives.
