Job summary

PathGroup is seeking a Pathologist Assistant Manager to lead the grossing staff and oversee gross dissection workflows onsite. You will ensure accuracy in gross descriptions and liaise with pathology leadership, transcription and histology teams.

The role requires a Pathologist Assistant degree, ASCP certification, and at least three years of PA experience including supervision. You will contribute to performance improvement and SOP updates while maintaining strict safety and privacy standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Pathologist Assistant required.
• ASCP or equivalent certification required.
• Maintains continuing education for certification/licensure.

Responsibilities

• Dissect and submit appropriate sections of surgical pathology specimens and dictate gross descriptions.
• Supervise workflow for surgical specimens from accession to gross dissection.
• Act as liaison for PAs to Administration, Pathologists and other PathGroup departments.
• Participate in laboratory performance improvement activities and evaluate new equipment/procedures.
• Perform personnel duties including interviewing, hiring, scheduling, evaluations, training and supervision of grossing staff.
• Create and update grossing SOPs and protocols.
• Monitor workflow, quality, productivity, and turnaround times.
• Ensure compliance with safety, confidentiality and regulatory guidelines.

Job description

The Pathologist Assistant Manager is responsible for managing the grossing staff and processes.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Dissect and submit appropriate sections of surgical pathology specimens and dictate gross descriptions.
• Supervise workflow for surgical specimens once accessioned and through gross dissection.
• Act as liaison for PA's to Administration, Pathologists, Transcription, Histology, and other PathGroup departments and facilities.
• Actively participate in, and have knowledge of, laboratory performance improvement activities, including resolution of grossing issues and concerns and evaluation of new equipment and/or procedures.
• Perform personnel-related duties such as interviewing, hiring, scheduling, completing performance evaluations/corrective action notices, competency assessment, training, and supervising of grossing staff.
• Create and update grossing standard operating procedures and grossing protocols.
• Monitor and make adjustments as needed to workflow and processes.
• Continuously monitor and address issues with grossing quality, productivity, and turnaround times.
• Exercise all laboratory safety precautions and adhere to lab procedures as stated in procedure manuals.
• Perform all job responsibilities in alignment with the industry's best security practices and regulatory guidelines to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information and other sensitive company data.
• Support PathGroup's mission, vision, goals and management decisions.
• Become familiar with and abide by the Corporate Compliance Program and all corporate policies, including the Privacy and Security policies; and especially policies that impact Pathologist Assistants directly.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Work with other departments within PathGroup and subsidiaries.

Requirements

EDUCATION & LICENSURE:

• Bachelor degree as a Pathologist Assistant is required.
• ASCP or equivalent certification as a Pathologist Assistant required.
• Maintains appropriate continuing education for certification/licensure, and to increase basic knowledge.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Successful completion of a formal Pathologist Assistant Training program.
• Minimum of three years of experience as a Pathologist Assistant.
• Minimum of one year of experience as a supervisor or manager in a laboratory setting.
