Job summary

University Hospitals in Cleveland seeks a Pathologists' Assistant I to support high-volume surgical pathology, performing gross examination, dissection, and tissue preparation for microscopic evaluation. You will assist with frozen sections, cytogenetics, immunofluorescence, and research, ensuring accurate documentation and quality standards.

The role includes mentoring residents and staff, maintaining equipment, and collaborating with pathologists to deliver timely diagnoses.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in pathology assistant required.
• PA certification or eligible (PA-ASCP) preferred.
• Relevant clinical or academic pathology experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform macroscopic dissection and description of specimens.
• Prepare tissue for microscopic evaluation and sectioning.
• Process tissue for ancillary studies (cytogenetics, immunofluorescence, research).
• Perform frozen sections for intraoperative consultation.
• Document and label specimens with proper chain of custody.
• Train and mentor residents and staff in grossing procedures.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure safety compliance.
• Collaborate with pathologists for timely diagnoses.
