Overview

Pathologists' Assistant - Exempt - Lewisville, TX - Monday - Friday 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM

The position of pathologist assistant (exempt) is intended for individuals currently certified as a pathologist assistant. The individual will perform routine functions in surgical pathology, including some troubleshooting and quality issues. Responsibilities include conducting gross examinations of surgical pathology specimens under supervision.

Pay Range: $88,700+ per year

Salary offers depend on skills, training, experience, education, certifications, and organizational factors. Successful candidates may be eligible for annual performance bonuses.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist the department manager/supervisor with daily operations of the surgical pathology area, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  2. Perform all duties as authorized by the laboratory director/technical supervisor.
  3. Conduct gross examination and dissection of large, complex specimens for histologic processing, including hospital-based, whole organ specimens.
  4. Provide technical instructions, training, and guidance to staff and students in techniques, instrumentation, and organization of work.
  5. May be responsible for orientation, training, and verification of new grossing staff.
  6. Perform quality control on new hires and assess competency of grossing staff.
  7. Contribute to employee performance reviews and establish supervision levels for specimen types.
  8. Perform specimen preparation on non-gynecological specimens, including cytopreparation, staining, coverslipping, and FNA specimens after training.
  9. Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards (local, federal, CLIA, CAP).
  10. Troubleshoot issues and exercise independent judgment when necessary.
  11. Interact with pathologists regarding gross dissection activities and specimen types requiring supervision.
  12. Identify and address problems affecting test performance or reporting, notifying supervisors as needed.
  13. Monitor workflow and coordinate activities, possibly acting as a key contact for staff and pathologists.
  14. Monitor HPAP as needed and participate in quality indicator development.
  15. Follow all applicable procedures and maintain continuing education requirements.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Required)
  • Master’s Degree (Preferred)
  • AAPA Fellowship status and/or PA (ASCP) certification (Required)
  • Current state licensure, if applicable (Required)
  • Meets all requirements outlined in corporate SOP and CLIA CFR regulations (Required)
  • NAACLS-approved Pathologist Assistant training program
