Job summary

Saint Francis Hospital & Medical Center in Hartford, CT, part of Trinity Health, is hiring a Pathologists’ Assistant for a full-time, day shift. You will work with pathologists to examine, dissect, and prepare surgical specimens and autopsy tissues that influence patient diagnosis and treatment.

Responsibilities include supervising post-mortem examinations, organ evisceration and tissue sampling, and mentoring PA students, while collaborating with pathology and histology teams to uphold

Qualifications

• Completion of NAACLS accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program.
• New graduates or those completing training; must have some autopsy experience.
• ASCP Pathologists’ Assistant certification or within 6 months of hire.
• Demonstrates attention to detail, effective communication and teamwork in a supervised setting.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Are you passionate about advancing patient care behind the scenes? Join the pathology team at Saint Francis Hospital & Medical Center in Hartford, CT, and play a critical role in supporting diagnostic excellence.

As a Pathologists' Assistant, you will work closely with pathologists and laboratory professionals to examine, dissect, and prepare complex surgical specimens and autopsy tissues that directly impact patient diagnosis and treatment.

What You Will Do:

• Perform and/or supervise post-mortem examination, including review of patient’s clinical history
• Evisceration and dissection of organs, sampling of tissues, photography of specimens, dictation of gross autopsy findings and preparation of provisional anatomic diagnosis under supervision of attending pathologist.
• Responsible for teaching and special activities as designated by the System Director or his/her designee. Train and mentor PA students.
• Collaborate with pathologists, histology staff, and laboratory professionals to support exceptional patient care.

Minimum Requirements:

• Completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) program for Pathologists’ Assistant.
• New graduates or those completing training by a certified Pathologists’ Assistant program. Must have some experience grossing highly complex specimens in a hospital setting and performance of autopsies
• Certification by ASCP as a Pathologists’ Assistant (PA); or obtain within 6 months from date of hire
• Demonstrates attention to detail, effective communication and teamwork skills. Works with a limited degree of supervision with oversight focused only on complex new assignments. Acts as an informal resource for colleagues with less experience.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
