Summary:
Responsibilities:
Assureproperspecimencollectionandsubmissionpriortoaccessioning. Assist clinicians with specimen collection questions.
Obtain and review pertinent clinical information and history, including imaging studies, laboratory results, and operative records.
Perform the macroscopic description and dissection of all surgical specimens ranging from simple to complex cases including pertinent macroscopic information for the staging of complex cancer cases.
Preparationsnecessaryforhumanpost-mortem examination.
Prepares tissue for frozen section for pathologist, not diagnosing, and other intra-operative consultation, within established protocol and procedural parameters.
Participatesinspecimenstorageanddisposal,andthemaintenanceofreagentsandequipment. Performs other duties as assigned.

· Knowledge of accession, dissection, anatomical description, and histological sampling methods and techniques.
· Knowledge of procedures,regulations,andstandardsfortheacquisitionofhumantissue samples.
· Knowledge of biologicalspecimendisposition,maintenanceandstorageproceduresand techniques.
· Knowledge of chemical reagents andequipment used in pathology.
· Skill in oralandwritten communication.
· Skill in managing multiple prioritiesandtasksconcurrentlyandmeeting deadlines.
· Skill in maintainingrecord keeping
· Skill in establishingandmaintainingcooperativeworkingrelationshipswith others.
· Ability to perform frozen sectionsandotherintra-operative consultations.
· Ability to maintain quality, safetyand/or infection control standards.
Ma ster’sdegreeasaPathologyAssistantandboardcertified/eligible.Progressivelyresponsible professional/exempt work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for college education.

Current certification from the American Association of Pathologists’ Assistant or the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is preferred.
