Responsibilities

• Assureproperspecimencollectionandsubmissionpriortoaccessioning. Assist clinicians with specimen collection questions.
• Assureappropriatespecimenaccessioningand/orverificationofuniquepatient identifiers.
• Obtain and review pertinent clinical information and history, including imaging studies, laboratory results, and operative records.
• Perform the macroscopic description and dissection of all surgical specimens ranging from simple to complex cases including pertinent macroscopic information for the staging of complex cancer cases.
• Preparationsnecessaryforhumanpost-mortem examination.
• Prepares tissue for frozen section for pathologist, not diagnosing, and other intra-operative consultation, within established protocol and procedural parameters.
• Participatesinspecimenstorageanddisposal,andthemaintenanceofreagentsandequipment. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUMEDUCATION QUALIFICATION

Ma ster’sdegreeasaPathologyAssistantandboardcertified/eligible.Progressivelyresponsible professional/exempt work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for college education.

Minimumexperience Qualification

No n-supervisory-Atleast(one)1yearofexperiencedirectlyrelatedtothedutiesandresponsibilities specified.

Preferredcertification Qualification

Current certification from the American Association of Pathologists’ Assistant or the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is preferred.
