Expect 36,000+ surgical cases and 5,300+ non‑gyn cytology cases annually. The role includes biopsy cases, frozen sections, limited clinical lab duties, and modest hematopathology support.

Qualifications

• Strong general surgical pathology skills are required.
• Preference for Cytopathology, GYN, or GI/Liver subspecialty/fellowship.
• 3+ years independent sign-out preferred, exceptional candidates eligible.

Responsibilities

• Sign out surgical pathology cases with a focus on quality and accuracy.
• Perform frozen sections and biopsy evaluations as needed (no grossing duties).
• Limited hematopathology involvement; marrow sign-out by hematopathology team.
• Provide clinical pathology duties as assigned with limited scope.
• Engage in call schedule Monday–Friday with shared weekend/holiday call.

Mercy Hospital Springfield is seeking a full‑time AP/CP BC/BE pathologist to fill a position opening due to retirement. We currently have 7 anatomic pathologists and a dedicated clinical pathologist. Strong general surgical pathology skills are necessary, with a preference for expertise and/or fellowship training in Cytopathology, GYN pathology, or GI/liver pathology. We also have busy Breast and ENT services. Preference will be given to pathologists with 3+ years independent sign out experience, but exceptional candidates of any training level or subspecialty will be considered.

• Monday‑Friday schedule with shared weekend and holiday call (no weekend sign‑out)

• Mixture of biopsy and complex cases with frozen section responsibility; no grossing required; no autopsies
• Limited clinical laboratory responsibilities. Limited hematopathology work (3 hematopathologists sign‑out all marrows and assist in lymphoma workups)
