Job Title: Patent Prosecution & Litigation Associate Attorney – Electrical Engineering & Software

Job Overview:
A well-established law firm, specializing in intellectual property law, is seeking a dynamic and skilled Patent Prosecution and Litigation Associate Attorney to join its team. This role offers the opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of technologies, including electrical engineering, software, and cutting-edge innovations. The ideal candidate will contribute to the growth of the practice and collaborate with experienced professionals across multiple office locations.

Duties:

  • Manage and support patent prosecution and litigation efforts within the field of electrical engineering and software technologies.
  • Draft patent applications, responses to office actions, and related documentation.
  • Advise clients on patentability, strategy, and portfolio management.
  • Work closely with engineers and scientists to understand complex technologies and develop effective legal strategies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across multiple office locations.
  • Stay up to date on industry developments, regulatory changes, and best practices within intellectual property law.

Requirements:

  • Must have a background in electrical engineering, computer science, or a closely related field.
  • Experience in patent prosecution and intellectual property law.
  • Proven track record in managing complex patent matters.
  • Strong experience or interest in software-related technologies.
  • Previous design engineering experience, especially in the semiconductor or chip industry, is a plus.
  • Experience with wireless communication technologies such as 5G or 6G, or familiarity with 3GPP standards is highly desirable but not mandatory.
  • Must be admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • 2-6 years of experience in IP law as an associate or patent agent.
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

Education:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar field is required.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) for attorneys or a technical degree for patent agents.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the USPTO is required.
  • State Bar membership, or eligibility to become licensed in the state where the position is based, for associate candidates.

  • Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and persuasively.
  • Expertise in patent drafting, prosecution, and litigation strategies.
