Mintz is seeking a Patent Prosecution Agent with a strong engineering background to join our Intellectual Property – Patent Prosecution Section in Boston or DC. The role focuses on drafting and prosecuting patent applications, responding to office actions, and performing freedom-to-operate studies while collaborating with a deep bench of professionals.

Candidates should hold an engineering degree and be able to communicate complex concepts to scientists and non-scientists, prioritizing multiple

Qualifications

• Degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science or a related field.
• Ability to present scientific concepts, analysis, reasoning and conclusions to scientists and non-scientists.
• Ability to prioritize competing responsibilities, stay organized and exercise attention to detail.
• Ability to collaborate and work effectively in team settings.

Responsibilities

• Draft and prosecute patent applications, respond to office actions, conduct examiner interviews.
• Perform freedom-to-operate studies and analyze patents to clear products for market.
• Conduct comprehensive searches for scientific articles, patents, and patent applications relevant to inventions.
• Identify essential elements and components of inventions.
• Compose patent applications with background, description, features, and claims.
• Draft responses to patent rejections from USPTO and other offices with supporting analysis.
• Conduct clearance studies to clear client products of competitor patents.
• Present ideas and conclusions concisely to colleagues and provide feedback.
• Collaborate with clients on innovative technologies to build IP portfolios.
