Job summary

Mintz is seeking a Patent Agent with a Ph.D. in the biological sciences to join our San Francisco, San Diego, or Boston office. This role focuses on patent prosecution, freedom-to-operate analysis, and due diligence for cutting-edge biotechnology clients.

You will draft applications, respond to office actions, coordinate with foreign associates, and assist with IP diligence for investments and IPOs. The firm supports in-office collaboration about 60% of the time.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related fields.
• USPTO admission required.
• At least three years of patent prosecution experience preferred.
• Experience drafting patent applications de novo from invention disclosures.
• Ability to present scientific concepts to scientists and non-scientists.
• Ability to prioritize competing responsibilities and maintain attention to detail.
• Collaborative and team-focused work style.

Responsibilities

• Manage patent portfolios and coordinate prosecution with foreign associates.
• Draft patent applications and respond to office actions with minimal supervision.
• Assess literature, patents and related documents across biology fields.
• Conduct patent-landscape and freedom-to-operate searches and analyses.
• Assist investors with IP diligence for potential investments and IPOs.
