Patent Classification Specialist - Physics/Electrical Engineering

Join our team! We are looking for an enthusiastic, inquisitive Research Analyst/Patent Classification Specialist (PCS) to join our Patent Search and Innovation Intelligence Services Team. In this role, you will determine appropriate application classifications in accordance with the Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC) system and United States Patent Classification System (USPC) through technical knowledge, research, and automated tools.

About you – experience, education, skills, and accomplishments

  • Bachelor's in electrical engineering, electronics, or physics
  • Experience and/or significant coursework in areas such as: circuits, electronics, electrical systems, power systems, semiconductors, optics, testing systems, digital signal processing, etc.
  • At least 6 months of research experience via work, internships, or volunteering
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Resided in the U.S. for the past two consecutive years

It would be great if you also had…

  • Previous experience with intellectual property (highly desirable)
  • Experience with circuits, electronics, electrical systems
  • Ability to work independently without excessive supervision
  • Proficiency with computer systems for research and classification operations
  • Ability to meet defined production and quality standards independently

What will you be doing in this role?

  • Mastering the patent classification process
  • Assigning classifications in accordance with the Cooperative Patent Classification rules and definitions
  • Classifying applications related to specific technologies
  • Continuously expanding knowledge and expertise in new technologies
  • Collaborating closely with team members in a team environment
