Job summary

Serco's Intellectual Property (IP) Services Program seeks a Patent Classifier to determine classifications using US and international patent systems. The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and in teams.

Responsibilities include assigning USPC and CPC codes, preparing written reports for patent attorneys, and using automated systems for research and classification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
• Critical thinking ability.
• Understanding of technical concepts and/or Computer Science; experience with databases, AI, and Information Security preferred.
• Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
• Ability to obtain and/or maintain a Public Trust Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Determine appropriate classifications in accordance with U.S. and international patent classification systems through technical knowledge, research, and automated tools.
• Use exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Prepare written reports for patent attorneys and others in the IP industry.
• Operate efficiently and accurately in a production-based environment.
• Work independently with minimal supervision and closely with others in a team environment.
• Participate in ongoing program training to expand knowledge in additional technical fields and patent services.
