Job summary

Miami Children’s Hospital in Fort Lauderdale is looking for a Pat Care Associate to support RN-directed patient care during night shifts. The role requires assisting with activities of daily living, vital signs, venipuncture, phlebotomy, and specimen collection in a busy hospital setting.

The candidate should have nursing assistant training and Florida CNA eligibility, with BLS in good standing. Excellent communication and teamwork are essential for coordinating care and ensuring patient comfort

Qualifications

• Completion of Nursing Assisting Training Program or equivalent at a State Approved site which is eligible for Florida C.N.A. examination (OR) Equivalent years of experience
• American Heart Association BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment

Responsibilities

• Receives patient care assignment from the registered nurse (RN) in charge. Initiates delegated tasks based on demonstrated competence in performing nursing activities.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living to include bathing, personal hygiene, nutrition and comfort measures, changing bed linens, and diapers.
• Performs vital signs, heights, weights, head circumference & other measurements and records the results in the Electronic Health Record according to nursing and hospital policies & procedures.
• Renders care to patients in adherence with written protocols under the supervision of the RN and assists with patient procedures such as venipuncture/phlebotomy, collecting and preparing laboratory specimens & phlebotomy according to health system standards, Point of Care Testing, ensuring EKG's as ordered, and other duties as assigned.
• Informs RN of pertinent information and/or communicates all significant changes in patient condition or behavior.
• Recognizes accepted priorities for care needs and takes direction for re-prioritizing from the RN.
• Restocks supplies such as gloves, gowns, linen, medical equipment, and assists with room preparation and turnover.
• Identifies the needs of the patient and provides necessary supplies accordingly.
• Proactively identifies opportunities for improvement and promotes/practices cost containment.
• Maintains patient rooms and nursing station clean at all times.
• Provides encouragement, support, and comfort to patients and family members.
• Assists with transporting patients for special procedures.
• Performs other assigned tasks to promote efficient practice operation and contributes to the provision of quality patient care.
• Greets and welcomes patients, families, and visitors. Communicates information regarding NCHS services and delivers excellent and timely service and support.
