Job summary

Nicklaus Children's Health System in Fort Lauderdale, FL is seeking a Nursing Assistant to provide direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. The role supports 24-hour hospital operations with essential clinical tasks and compassionate patient engagement.

You will assist with activities of daily living, take vital signs, and help with specimen collection, EKGs, and phlebotomy as directed. Strong teamwork and communication are required to ensure quality care.

Qualifications

• Completion of Nursing Assisting Training Program or equivalent at a State Approved site which is eligible for Florida C.N.A. examination (OR) Equivalent years of experience.
• American Heart Association BLS -maintain active and in good standing throughout employment.
• Florida State C.N.A certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Receives patient care assignment from the RN and initiates delegated tasks.
• Assists patients with ADLs including bathing, hygiene, nutrition and comfort.
• Records vitals, heights, weights and measurements in the EHR per policy.
• Performs venipuncture/phlebotomy and collects laboratory specimens as directed.
• Communicates patient condition changes to the RN and adjusts priorities as needed.
• Restocks supplies and maintains room cleanliness and turnover.
• Greet and support patients and families, delivering quality service.

Provides direct and indirect care duties under the guidance and direction of the registered nurse (RN). Performs a variety of invasive and non invasive technical skills and specialized patient care procedures as well as other duties to support 24 hours of hospital operations.

Job Specific Duties

• Receives patient care assignment from the registered nurse (RN) in charge. Initiates delegated tasks based on demonstrated competence in performing nursing activities.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living to include bathing, personal hygiene, nutrition and comfort measures, changing bed linens, and diapers.
• Performs vital signs, heights, weights, head circumference & other measurements and records the results in the Electronic Health Record according to nursing and hospital policies & procedures.
• Renders care to patients in adherence with written protocols under the supervision of the RN and assists with patient procedures such as; venipuncture/phlebotomy, collecting and preparing laboratory specimens & phlebotomy according to health system standards, Point of Care Testing, ensuring EKG's as ordered, and other duties as assigned.
• Informs RN of pertinent information and/or communicates all significant changes in patient condition or behavior.
• Recognizes accepted priorities for care needs and takes direction for re-prioritizing from the RN.
• Restocks supplies such as gloves, gowns, linen, medical equipment, and assists with room preparation and turnover.
• Identifies the needs of the patient and provides necessary supplies accordingly.
• Proactively identifies opportunities for improvement and promotes/practices cost containment.
• Maintains patient rooms and nursing station clean at all times.
• Provides encouragement, support, and comfort to patients and family members.
• Assists with transporting patients for special procedures.
• Performs other assigned tasks to promote efficient practice operation and contributes to the provision of quality patient care.
• Greets and welcomes patients, families, and visitors. Communicates information regarding NCHS services and delivers excellent and timely service and support.
