Job description

The responsibilities of the Pastry Cook are diverse and depend on experience, evolving as you develop your skills. The Pastry Cook must thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards throughout the kitchen and dish area. Most importantly, the Pastry Cook takes pride in their work and is a team player.

Your recipe for success:

  1. Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a high-volume pastry production, banquet kitchen, or similar environment, with knowledge of:
  • Scaling and measuring ingredients
  • Varied pastry mixing techniques (creaming, rubbing, whisking, folding, kneading, reverse creaming, all-in-one)
  • Making custards and creams
  • Controlling ingredient and product temperatures
  • Baking science
  • Finishing desserts and pastries
  • Desire to help where needed and work as part of a team.
  • Passion for baking with a focus on freshness, quality, and cleanliness.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to learn and try new pastries.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including one weekend day; shifts range from early morning to early afternoon.
  • Working Conditions / Essential Skills:

    • Stand for 8+ hours per shift
    • Kneel, grasp, lift, and manipulate up to 50 lbs regularly
    • Reliable attendance
    • Availability to work days, late afternoons, weekends, and holidays as needed

    Position Requirements:

    • Willingness to learn bakery equipment operation (deck ovens, proofers, rack ovens, fryers, etc.)
    • Ability to multitask in a high-volume bakery
    • Maintain high standards of product quality
    • Communicate professionally in writing and verbally with clients

    Preferred Skills:

    • Experience in baking or food manufacturing
    • Experience in a high-volume production setting
    • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices
    • Fluency in Spanish and English
