Base pay range

$22.00/yr - $26.00/yr

Position Summary

The mission of Hope the Mission is to prevent, reduce, and eliminate poverty, hunger, and homelessness by offering immediate assistance and long-term solutions. Our mission is to meet our participants' needs through an individualized and non-judgmental approach.

The Pastry Cook is responsible for preparing and baking pastries, baked goods, and desserts. Most of the work involves high-volume production baking focusing on breakfast and dessert items such as cookies, muffins, scones, danishes, cakes, and other quick breads. This position is part of our bakery department, working with the Lead Baker and reporting to the Chef de Cuisine and Executive Chef.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities
  • Prepare and bake a wide variety of baked goods, quick breads, and desserts
  • Operate, maintain, and clean all bakery kitchen equipment including scales, mixers, ovens, and stove tops
  • Read and follow recipes accurately
  • Be a team player with a positive attitude
  • Collaborate effectively with bakery team members, supervisors, and other kitchen staff
  • Organize and manage time efficiently; work under deadlines with attention to detail
  • Multitask and prioritize daily tasks
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary workstation
  • Organize and clean all bakery areas including dry storage, refrigeration, and freezer storage
  • Serve food to residents, employees, or patrons as needed
  • Cook food according to menus, dietary restrictions, or portion requirements
  • Inspect and clean all equipment and work areas to ensure hygiene and safety
  • Work in a standing position for extended periods
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs
  • Bend and stoop regularly
  • Work on weekends and holidays as required
  • Follow strict food safety protocols
Other Requirements
  • Assist with savory kitchen tasks when needed
  • Help with cleaning and maintenance of kitchen equipment and spaces
  • Manage inventory, restock ingredients, and notify supervisors of low stock
  • Support staff meals and special events
  • Work with volunteers and other helpers in meal prep and service
  • Adhere to food safety regulations
  • Perform additional tasks with a positive attitude
Additional Qualifications And Experience
  • At least 5+ years of pastry baking experience; catering or large-scale production preferred
  • 2+ years of high-volume baking experience
  • Commitment to serving homeless families and individuals
  • Food handler certification
  • Culinary degree in pastry and baking preferred
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
  • Drug and TB testing required; background check required
  • Full-time employment
Physical and Environmental Conditions

Must be able to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in various environmental conditions. Reasonable accommodations will be provided as needed. Must be able to communicate effectively and work safely in a busy kitchen environment.

Shift Hours

4am - 12:30pm
