We employ people who apply the same amount of care and passion to their jobs as they do their hobbies - people who put our guests at the heart of everything they do. We’re looking for more people like this to join our friendly and professional team.

The InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown is located in the Wilshire Grand building, standing 73 stories tall in the heart of Downtown’s historic, entertainment, financial, arts, and sports districts. The hotel provides first-class hospitality that seamlessly intertwines with the fabric of the burgeoning Downtown area.

Your Day to Day

You'll be actively involved in the preparation, baking, and finishing of desserts, breads, and baked goods in accordance with departmental quality standards.

Every day is different at IHG, but you’ll mostly be:

  • Assisting in the development, testing, and costing out of new recipes and menu items for the Pastry Shop.
  • Maintaining updated and accurate recipes and costing of all products prepared for the Pastry Shop, and for all orders.
  • Ensuring that all desserts are prepared in an attractive and appetizing manner.
  • Regularly inspecting the quality and quantity of pastry, croissants, breads, and other bakery goods.
  • Checking daily function sheets and preparing items accordingly.
  • Controlling pastry items before they are received by the stores, ensuring they meet accepted minimum/maximum par stock.
  • Dispensing pastry only against valid requisitions and orders.
  • Ensuring the proper handling, cleanliness, and maintenance of the working area.
  • Maintaining sanitation, cleanliness, safety, and health standards.
  • Inspecting the sanitation, operation, and cleanliness of all tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Promoting teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments.

What We Need From You

  • Knowledge - completion of a degree or certificate in culinary arts, and two years of experience as a chef, pastry chef, baker, or equivalent; or an equivalent combination of education and culinary/kitchen operations experience with specialized training in pastry.
  • Strength & Fitness - you will be moving about frequently carrying or lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Communication skills - both written and verbal - are utilized when interacting with guests and coworkers.
  • Mathematical skills, including basic math, percentages, quantities, and variances, are used frequently.
  • Flexibility - working in events and in a fine dining setting, you will work nights, weekends, and/or holidays.

What We Offer

The hourly pay range for this role is $23.31 to $34.96. This range is only applicable for jobs performed in Los Angeles, California. This is the lowest to highest pay scale we believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s pay position within the pay range will be based on several factors.
