Job description

Castle Hot Springs is searching for a Pastry Chef to join our talented culinary team in Harvest Restaurant. A primary focus of the resort is to offer our guests an incredible “Farm to Fork” dining experience at every meal period. This role reports to our Executive Chef and will be responsible for crafting delicious desserts and confectionery, designing seasonal menus, and developing new recipes for the pastry section of our kitchen. You should be passionate about baking and be inspired to create masterpieces that go beyond our guests’ expectations.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Note: the following duties and responsibilities are not all-inclusive

  • Operating and managing the pastry section of the kitchen and liaising with the executive and sous chefs to ensure a successful working environment.
  • Preparing ingredients and handling baking and other kitchen equipment.
  • Creating pastries, baked goods, and confections by following a set recipe.
  • Developing new recipes for seasonal menus.
  • Decorating pastries and desserts to ensure beautiful and tasteful presentation.
  • Meeting with customers to discuss details and planning custom-made desserts and pastries for special occasions, such as weddings.
  • Monitoring the stock of baking ingredients.
  • Order new supplies, ingredients, and equipment for the pastry section when needed and within budget.
  • Ensuring their section of the kitchen adheres to safety and health regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as requested by the Executive Chef.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he/she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Requires extending arms, bending, and stooping to reach materials.
  • Ability to work on slippery surfaces and work well under pressure.
  • Required to stand for long periods of time in one area near hot equipment (ovens, burners, etc.).
  • Ability to lift 100 lbs. and carry 50 lbs.
  • Thorough knowledge of food products, standard recipes, and proper preparation.
  • Must be experienced in the operation of all commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Working knowledge of baking techniques and the pastry-making process.
  • Creative ability with artistic skill in decorating cakes and other desserts.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Must work well with all other departments.
  • Ability to maintain a pleasant disposition and function efficiently in a high-stress work environment.
  • Solid interpersonal, organizational, and multi-tasking skills. Must be detail-oriented.
  • Ability to listen effectively, to speak and write English clearly.
  • Good communication skills; able to manage and motivate people.
  • Promote excellent guest relations while living the Castle Hot Springs Commitments.
  • Maintain a high level of work quality and quantity per resort standards.
  • At all times, maintain the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and a positive attitude.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma.
  • Post-secondary training at a culinary institution.
  • Certificate in culinary arts, pastry-making, baking, or relevant field.
  • 2 or more years of experience working within the food industry as a Pastry Chef, Baker, or relevant role.
