Job summary

O'Meara GMC is seeking a Retail Parts Counter/Shipping Receiving associate to assist customers with automotive parts and accessories. You will apply product knowledge, verify items, and ensure accurate invoicing in a fast-paced dealership setting.

Responsibilities include greeting customers, identifying parts via catalogs or VIN tools, restocking displays, handling shipments, and supporting inventory accuracy with cycle counts while staying current on products and promotions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Forklift operation permit highly preferred.
• Familiarity with parts lookup systems (Dealertrack or manufacturer systems).

Job description

Duties/Responsibilities:

The Retail Parts Counter/Shipping Receiving associate is responsible for assisting customers in purchasing automotive parts and accessories. This position requires strong product knowledge, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service in a fast-paced dealership environment.

Compensation

$40,000-$50,000/Year

Key Responsibilities:

• Greet retail customers promptly and professionally at the parts counter.
• Assist customers in identifying correct parts using catalogs, systems, or VIN decoding tools.
• Accurately pull, price, and invoice parts for retail customers.
• Maintain and restock display areas and front counter merchandise.
• Answer phone calls and respond to online parts inquiries.
• Process special orders and follow up on back-ordered items.
• Assist in maintaining inventory accuracy through cycle counts and stock checks.
• Stay current on new products, technical bulletins, and manufacturer promotions.
• Receives goods and verifies the quality and count of all items unloaded from trucks and trailers; checks against suppliers count and immediately reports discrepancies to carriers, supervisor, per company policy.
• Verifies and records all items loaded for shipments.
• Maintains database of shipment data to ensure that customer orders are updated and that appropriate billing documents are provided to accounting or other associated departments as required.
• Notifies supervisor of major discrepancies, over-shipments, or substitutions.
• Completes information on damage claims for in-transit damage.
• Transports materials on shipping dock with a hand truck or other vehicle as needed.
• Loads trucks using a forklift.
• Performs other clerical duties.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to accurately sort, count, and verify items received.
• Basic understanding of railway, dock, and warehouse procedures.
• Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and/or inventory software to maintain records, input data, and create reports.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• State motor vehicle operators permit for operation of forklift highly preferred

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to traverse distribution warehouse and access a variety of storage spaces and shelving units by stretching, squatting, and reaching.
• Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures in the warehouse and on the loading dock.
• Prior automotive parts experience preferred, especially in a dealership or retail setting.
• Familiarity with parts lookup systems (e.g. Dealertrack, or manufacturer-specific systems).
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

Work Environment:

• Indoor retail and service environment with regular exposure to shop conditions.
• Occasional lifting, bending, and use of ladders to access stock.
