POSITION: PARTS COUNTERPERSON

PURPOSE:
The Parts Counterperson sells parts to all customers, over the counter, through the shop, or on the phone.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Assist walk-in customers in selecting required parts, suggest companion requirements, offer specials, and ensure that the customer is exposed to the full product line.
- Pull purchased parts from stock.
- If the part is not in stock, determine availability and submit an emergency order if requested by the customer or tech.
- Answer phone calls, providing price quotes and other information.
- Assist outside sales reps with their orders.
- Set up orders for daily shipment, delivery, or pick-up.
- Verify WILL CALL and BACKORDER files weekly and return to vendors or stock those items not required.
- Solicit assigned accounts by phone.
- Assist service technicians in selecting parts needed for repairs in process.
- Notify service desk and the customer that ordered parts have been received.
- Ensure that before parts can be charged out, the technician presents a repair order.
- Display seasonal parts and accessories attractively.
- Keep parts catalogs and price books current.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in bins, aisles, and storage areas.
- Provide friendly, professional, and efficient service to customers and co-workers.
- Offer the same high level of service to other dealership departments as to external customers.
- Issue credit slips for returned parts, verifying purchase and pricing with original invoice or number; exceptions require approval.
- When taking tax-exempt sales, obtain full customer details including name, address, fed ID #, and signature.
- Present the white copy of the invoice after removing the tear strip.
- Keep counters and parts area clean and uncluttered.
- Replenish inventory daily.
- Report unsatisfactory conditions to Parts Manager.
- Check invoices against orders and stock shelves promptly.
- Help maintain orderly parts storage.
- Keep parts catalogs updated.
- Inform technicians and customers when special order parts arrive.
- Stay current on new products and updates.
- Participate in training programs.
- If customers pay by invoice, record payment details accurately.
- Keep computer terminals clean.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information.
- One year of experience in an automotive parts department.
- One year of sales experience.
- Professional personal appearance.
- Ability to work well with the public, sometimes with multiple customers simultaneously.
- Must wear a dealership uniform at all times.
