Job description

As a member of the Synovus ISO Risk Management team, your primary focus is on reviewing significant credit risk exposure accounts, emphasizing the ISO's credit fundamentals and portfolio risks. Your analysis ensures that the ISO's financial strength is aligned with potential exposure from their payment processing relationships. Collaborating with internal and external partners, you conduct thorough financial assessments on both prospective and existing ISOs to mitigate risks effectively. Your responsibilities include managing credit for new prospective ISOs and the existing ISO portfolios, addressing complex challenges. Regular monitoring of ISOs' financial positions, coordination with ISO Sponsorship Risk, and internal stakeholders ensure continuous relationship oversight. Additionally, you facilitate underwriting, documentation, and closing processes for new substantial sponsorship relationships, ensuring proper setup and presentation to the Special Committee for initial and ongoing approvals at specified intervals.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • The role involves underwriting new prospective ISOs and supervising a customer relationship base to guarantee compliance with sponsorship approvals and documentation. Tasks may encompass gathering essential financial data, conducting financial modeling for validating past and future performance, analyzing findings, making presentations, offering recommendations, and finalizing waivers and amendments as needed.
  • Establishes an ISO financial monitoring program to consistently evaluate existing ISO relationships, proactively addressing any emerging issues or concerns. Conducts routine monthly, quarterly, and annual credit reviews as mandated for Sponsorship, ACH, and Third-Party senders in alignment with regulatory standards.
  • Reviews the current status of the ISO portfolio, encompassing assessments on defaults or potential defaults regarding covenant requirements. Alerts the Senior Director of ISO Sponsorship Risk and other stakeholders about these issues, engaging with customers directly when necessary to address concerns and ensure appropriate actions are taken to manage risks.
  • Conducts continuous evaluations of the ISO portfolio, involving industry research and benchmarking against peers. Engages in discussions with Risk management and the customer's financial team to ascertain and uphold positive operating performance and ability to fulfill obligations. Promptly notifies Risk Management of any deterioration in operating performance to facilitate timely risk management interventions and maintain effective risk mitigation strategies across the portfolio.
  • Supports ISO Sponsorship Risk in working with large sponsorship customers to handle existing and proposed sponsorship requests, providing a high level of customer service support, with an emphasis on obtaining and retaining high income customers.
  • Supports the ISO Sponsorship Risk team to formulate evaluations of risks and trends associated with clients, competitors, and the industry as a whole. This role necessitates a comprehensive, in-depth analysis of financial data and other client-provided information. Additionally, it involves supplementing this data with research and assessments from a diverse array of sources for a holistic understanding of the risk landscape.
  • Works with Sr. Director Sponsorship Risk and Third Party Payments, Retail Risk Management, and bank attorney on the sponsorship documentation and closing process for new large, complex sponsorship agreements. Analyses prospects and prepares in depth credit risk approval memoranda for presentation and approval by the Special Committee. Is instrumental in setting up appropriate credit risk monitoring procedures.
  • Conducts review and maintenance of monitoring reports and pertinent approval documentation to ensure that information is in place to facilitate internal audit, compliance and regulatory review.
  • Assists in cross selling efforts with other areas of Synovus and performs special projects related to individual portfolio dynamics or projects for the department manager.
  • Each team member is expected to be aware of risk within their functional area. This includes observing all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their role. Additionally, they should raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate Company authority in a timely fashion.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
