Job summary

OpenAI is seeking an Applied AI Engineer for the Ecosystem Applied AI Engineering team in San Francisco to design, build, evaluate, submit, launch, and maintain high‑utility plugins for ChatGPT and Codex. This hands‑on, partner‑facing role spans platform contributions, sophisticated partner engagements, and translating ambiguous product needs into production‑ready integrations.

Qualifications

• Have 4–6 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience building production APIs, developer platforms, or plugins.
• Strong product sense and ability to ship useful plugins.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with external engineers and executives.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical partner journey from pitch to ongoing maintenance.
• Prototype and review integrations across partner teams.
• Write production code and create guidance, evals, and launch checklists.
• Debug API contracts, auth flows, and observability across systems.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, design, legal, and GTM teams to smooth launches.
• Turn launch patterns into reusable playbooks and platform requirements.
