Job summary

Nusano in West Valley City, Utah, seeks a Particle Accelerator Operator to support installation, qualification, and operation of accelerators and related subsystems. The role involves collaboration with engineering and physics teams and participation in preventive maintenance to ensure safe, reliable performance.

You will engage with scientists and technicians, manage safety requirements, and contribute to end-to-end beam commissioning and experiments, including radiological and high-voltage

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in physics, engineering or related field plus at least 1 year of operations experience
• Diagnostic skills and experience troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, vacuum, RF, electromagnet, cryogenic, controls, and high voltage systems
• Ability to follow and write formal procedures and read technical drawings/schematics
• Able to work with a wide variety of hand and power tools
• Experience with electrical work (cable assembly, soldering, testing)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Leadership, communication, teamwork, and being a team player

Responsibilities

• Assemble, qualify, and operate accelerator and related subsystems and components
• Operate and tune the accelerator and beam transport systems while maintaining safety and schedules
• Diagnose equipment malfunctions and perform advanced troubleshooting; escalate as needed
• Develop maintenance and repair procedures to reduce downtime and improve safety
• Maintain knowledge of electrical and radiation safety systems
• Lead safe operations complying with PPS, MPS, and other safety requirements
• Monitor system health, maintain logs, and communicate deviations to the operations manager
• Control access to restricted areas
• Maintain training to meet safety and operational requirements
• Communicate technical information in a diverse environment
• Work independently, including radiological tasks requiring PPE and respirator
• Use electronic test equipment and handheld/benchtop devices
• Shift rotations require 24/7/365 coverage
