Job summary

Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota is seeking a reliable Part-Time Rink Worker & Zamboni Driver to maintain a safe, smooth ice surface for skaters. The role combines general rink operations with operating the Zamboni between public sessions, lessons, and events.

The position is temporary (September through March) with 15–20 hours per week. Candidates should be 18+, have a valid driver's license, and be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old (some facilities require 21+ for Zamboni operation).
• Previous Zamboni driving experience is strongly preferred; otherwise, must be willing and able to complete on-the-job training.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Physically fit and able to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in cold temperatures.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate the Zamboni ice resurfacer to clean and resurface the ice between public skates, lessons, and events.
• Perform pre- and post-shift inspections and basic maintenance on the Zamboni and other ice equipment.
• Monitor ice conditions and make necessary adjustments for optimal skating surface.
• Shovel, scrape, and remove snow/debris from the ice as needed.
• Open/close rink operations and assist with setup for events, games, and sessions.
• Maintain cleanliness of the rink, benches, lobby and surrounding areas; provide courteous customer service.
