Job summary

New York Edge is seeking a Volleyball Specialist to deliver targeted, age-appropriate instruction and mentorship to youth in after-school and day camp programs in New York City. You will lead volleyball activities, ensure safety, and foster youth development through sports.

The role emphasizes curriculum-based teaching, reliable attendance, and strong communication with staff. Part-time, 9–15 hours/week in Queens/Brooklyn locations with after-school hours.

Qualifications

• Must be knowledgeable and skilled in Volleyball and have prior experience successfully teaching and instructing youth.
• Prior experience teaching and instructing youth preferred.
• Must be able to follow a curriculum.
• Must be responsible, reliable, and punctual.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.
• May be required to walk up and down stairs.
• May have to lift or move objects/materials as needed.
• Work is performed mostly within a New York City Public School but may be required to interact with the community during trips or events.

Responsibilities

• Motivate students to be active daily.
• Follow age-appropriate daily activity lesson plans and learn goals.
• Maintain communication with the Program Director about the calendar of programs and events.
• Motivate and encourage students to participate in organization-wide sports activities.
• Establish and enforce safety rules and procedures for student behavior.
• Instruct participants on activity techniques and safety procedures and show proper equipment use.
• Set clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects and communicate them to students.
• Prepare facilities for group activities.
• Evaluate activities to determine if they meet learning goals.
• Adapt teaching methods to meet students' needs and interests.
• Support progressive development of student skills and character development.
• Provide support during academic hours when required.
• Adapt each activity to ensure safe participation.
