Job summary

The Royal Oak Public Library in Royal Oak, MI is seeking a Part-Time Youth & Teen Librarian to plan and conduct weekly Family Story Time and provide high-quality reference assistance to children, teens, and families.

Responsibilities include supporting youth/teen programming, helping patrons with library systems, preparing displays and materials, and contributing to web content updates; MLS is required or expected within six months.

Qualifications

• Master of Library Science degree or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program; degree must be in progress if not yet completed within 6 months.
• Experience in public libraries preferred but not required; MLS required or imminent.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct weekly Family Story Time to support early literacy.
• Provide reference and readers’ advisory services in person, by email, and by phone.
• Develop and present youth and teen programs; assist with collections and statistics.
• Assist with internet and computer applications; participate in collection development and displays.
• Cover adult reference desk as needed and assist with web content updates.
• Other tasks as assigned by Department Head.
