Job summary

Boys and Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley (BGCSV) is seeking a part-time youth program assistant for our San Jose on-site after-school program. You will supervise and mentor youth, facilitating activities that promote social, emotional, and physical growth.

Responsibilities include implementing developmentally aligned curricula, maintaining safe environments, and collaborating with parents and schools to support participant progress. Prioritize inclusivity and teamwork within a dynamic setting.

Qualifications

• Experience working with students in educational or recreational settings is preferred.
• Background in after-school programs, sports coaching, theater, or special education is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of childhood development principles and effective classroom management techniques.
• Ability to educate and inspire youth through various activities while fostering a positive learning environment.
• Certification in First Aid is preferred; willingness to obtain certification if not currently held.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to build rapport with children and their families.
• A commitment to promoting inclusivity and understanding diverse backgrounds among youth.
• Department of Justice and FBI Background check clearance.
• 18 yrs. of age
• NCLB certification required/ 48 Transferable Units
• Multi-conversational language skills are a plus (Spanish, Vietnamese)
• Experience or coursework in Childhood Development will be given preference

Responsibilities

• Supervision & Safety: Ensure a safe and nurturing environment for youth participants.
• Facilitate engaging activities that promote social, emotional, and physical development for a group of 20 members.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to members, helping them navigate challenges and achieve their goals.
• Implement educational programs that align with best practices in childhood development.
• Supervise and manage groups of children in various settings, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
• Collaborate with parents, teachers, and community organizations to enhance the overall development of youth.
• Utilize skills in sports coaching, theater, or other extracurricular activities to enrich the program offerings.
• Maintain accurate records of members' progress and participation in activities.
• Respond to emergencies with appropriate first aid measures when necessary.
