Job summary

Temple Beth Sholom in Salem, Oregon, seeks a thoughtful Religious School Director to lead the Baneinu program, oversee curriculum, teacher support, and family communication in partnership with the Rabbi and Youth Education Committee.

The role is part-time, with compensation of $18,000 per year and Sunday in-person duties, plus attendance at key youth events. Reports to the Executive Director and collaborates with the Rabbi and Youth Education Committee.

Qualifications

• BS/BA preferred, advanced degree in education, Jewish education or related field.
• Experience in Jewish education, youth programming, school administration, or a related leadership role.
• Strong understanding of Jewish traditions, Hebrew, and Jewish practices.
• Excellent organizational and written communication skills.
• Ability to supervise staff and collaborate with clergy, staff, and families.

Responsibilities

• Design and oversee youth education programming with Rabbi and Youth Education Committee.
• Recruit, supervise, support, and evaluate teachers and staff.
• Develop curriculum and learning experiences promoting Jewish identity and Hebrew learning.
• Plan calendar for Baneinu, Jew Crew, family programs, and intergenerational learning.
• Coordinate enrollment, attendance, records, scheduling, and other admin needs.
• Communicate with parents, staff, clergy, and congregation about programs and schedules.
• Foster a warm, inclusive environment for students and families.
• Collaborate to strengthen programming and engage families and volunteers.
• Attend Religious School sessions and key youth events throughout the year.
• Develop Madrichim program to engage teens as classroom helpers and leaders.
• Create family-centered Shabbat experiences to connect families with synagogue life.
• Work with Holiday Observance Committee to reflect family needs.
