Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; degree in Jewish education or related field preferred.
  • Experience supervising educators and coordinating programs in a Jewish educational setting.
  • Ability to plan, implement and evaluate curriculum with attention to safety and inclusivity.
  • Knowledge of Reconstructionist Jewish ritual and practice; strong leadership and communication skills.

Responsibilities

Job description

Part-time Education Director

Congregation Bet Haverim is currently seeking a part-time Education Director to serve our Religious School. Our religious school serves 40-50 students in Grades pre K - 7th plus a post-Brit Mitzvah teen madrichim program. School sessions run from August - May on Sunday mornings. We have 6 teachers and 3 Hebrew tutors. Family programming, Shabbat programming and other hours may be required. This position reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the Interim Spiritual Leader. The position is available in July 2026.

Responsibilities include:

  • Overall management and supervision of school, administration of logistics, structure of educational experiences, safety and security protocols, and related functions
  • Human resources management including hiring teachers and madrichim, training new teachers and madrichim, and providing mentorship and professional development opportunities. Oversight of teacher evaluation (including classroom observation and supervision).
  • Curriculum development, implementation and evaluation with focus on imparting CBH values of Judaism through a Reconstructionist lens to our children and teens. Review, oversight, and implementation of new/updated curriculum related to anti-semitism and Israel/Palestine.
  • Partnership with teachers in the implementation of curriculum and provision of guidance with lesson planning and classroom management
  • Engagement in community outreach to recruit new students and teachers
  • Implementation of education budget in conjunction with the Executive Director
  • Oversight of scheduling, registration, and enrollment in classes
  • Application for and management of education-related grants (two grants currently are in place: 1) Shabbat morning programming and 2) Post-Brit Mitzvah engagement)
  • Collaboration with Brit Mitzvah coordinator
  • Environmental scanning to stay current with educational “best practices”
  • Management of communications with parents and school families
  • Development and implementation of family programming, holiday observances, and Shabbat services/programming (approximately once per month), in coordination with the Interim Spiritual Leader and office team.
  • Participation in planning of children's programming for High Holidays (and option for involvement in delivery of such programming).

We are looking for someone with experience leading educational programs and working successfully with teachers, children, and families. The ideal candidate is creative, organized, motivated, and enjoys building connections with children, parents, and families. They should be passionate about Jewish education and creating a fun, welcoming, and safe learning environment. The candidate should also support our values of inclusivity, diversity, and social justice, and have strong organizational, communication, and people skills.

The Education Director will be responsible for motivating, supervising, and evaluating the current staff and coordinating the teen madrichim and Hebrew tutors. They will communicate on an ongoing basis with students, parents, and teachers/madrichim, and will continue to develop existing curriculum, policies and procedures for the school. The Director will work with the Interim Spiritual Leader to create meaningful services/experiences for the school-aged children in the community.

Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree
  • A degree in Jewish education or a similar field
  • Supervisorial and teaching experience in a Jewish educational setting, ideally including administrative, budgeting and human resource management experience
  • Knowledge of Reconstructionist Jewish ritual and practice
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong computer skills required
Compensation and Benefits

Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications, experience and responsibilities. Benefits include 50% of health insurance costs; employee-paid Dental, Vision and 401k are also available. Part-time hours consist of 30 hours per week, with flexible hours and work-from-home options available. Work on weekends is required as that is when school is in session. This position does not reimburse for relocation. Salary $60k+ Salary commensurate with experience.
